Ahead of them were the cold mountain passes of Albania through which they hoped to escape to the coast. However; with Bulgarian forces hot on their trail and Albanians raiding them, the Serbians still had to make desperate delaying actions along the way with what little supplies they had left. Serbia itself may have been overrun, but the army could still be saved."
